NEVERS VEILLEUSE

7-3/4" to top of knob, 4-3/8" diameter throughout, 6-1/2" across to handle. A veilleuse is a nightlight; these were very popular in the 19th century and were often used with scented candles in sickrooms. Think how delightful to use one today, on one's patio, with a citronella candle to keep away mosquitos! This was made by Montagnon of Nevers at the turn of the last century in a charming Art Nouveau design . In fine original condition, ready for use.

ROUND COVERED BOX

Body diameter: 5". Lid diameter, a close-fitting 4-1/2". Base diameter: a solid 3-5/8". We know this couple! Design by Paul Fouillen, a vignette from his plate series, so beloved by collectors everywhere! A great rarity, just acquired from a private collection in Quimper. More of the plate series is shown in our book "Collecting Quimper", on p.68, where the plates show the same stylized seaweed and coral border as this piece. HB Quimper, ca. 1925, it is in fine, useful condition. The several glaze skips at the bottom of the lid and at the base are from the original firing and should not be touched...just hand wash gently!

DUCK BOX, A 20th CENTURY RE-ISSUE

7-5/8" high, 5-3/4" across. A delicious re-issue of an old form. These were started in the early 1980s, intended as a limited edition of 2400. However, it was just at the time that the factory closed for an extended period; we are not sure that the whole production was ever achieved! This is #35; we bought it at a very good time!

RARE DEMI-TASSES

Saucers: 4" diameter, cups: 2" high. A perfect little can shape that takes happy patterns from the Ivoire Corbeille design concept. Ca. 1930, in perfect original condition, just right for your mid-morning espresso or your after-dinner demi-tasse. This form is incredibly scarce! We have not found others in lo! these many years. Use with

pleasure; then wash carefully and store where they can be seen.

MALICORNE BASKET

12" long, 8" high, 5-1/4" across. A stunning concept: two-tones and basket-weave detail, both inside the basket and out, make it a versatile piece for decorating or serving. An unusual PB for Malicorne, suggesting it is possibly a one-of-a-kind, ca. 1900. Modest conservation measures, marked with our restorer's three red dots, signal limited use and careful handwashing. Fruits, cookies, even little potted plants, all will do just fine!

QUIMPER PALETTE

9-1/2" high, 7-1/4 across. Adorable young Breton couple, colorfully attired, and wreathed in matching floral sprays. Ca. 1890, it is a perfect wall pocket to hang near a desk and tuck in notes or mail. Certainly one of the more unusual and eye-catching forms from this factory. Modest conservation has been done to bring this back to perfection: hang it, use it, enjoy it!

BOOK CHAUFFE-MAINS

3-7/8 " x 3" x 1" thick. Warm your hands, yes, or perhaps your interior if filled with brandy rather than hot water! Some age as betokened by the cork, which appears to be old and original. The signature on the spine: A.B. (not Alfred Beau!), Quimper (not!), GM (not Géo Martel) looks like someone's little jest; the piece itself is beautifully decorated front and back and would hold its own with any faïence grouping. Small but powerful, in perfect condition.

DESVRES PIPE RACK

11-1/4" across, 9-1/4" high, 1-1/2" deep from wall. An exquisite piece, from the embossed blazon at the top, to the lovely little vignette of the Breton couple under the rack. Created sometime in the last 50 years, it is in perfect original condition. The colors and the swirling pattern above the rack incline us to think this came from Desvres, though not marked in any way.
