PITCHERS AND MUGS

ROOSTER PITCHER

6-5/8" to top of spout, 6-1/2" across from handle. A deliciously plump shape leaves ample room for six different ribbon stripes, three on each side of the proud rooster...we even get Brittany ermine tails in one stripe, most unusual for this rustic design! Signed HB Quimper under the handle, ca. 1910. It is in perfect original condition, ready for daily use.

$185, plus shipping.

CLASSIC BIBERON JUG

6-1/4" high, 5-1/4" across from handle to little snub spout. Complete with its original lid! From the de la Hubaudière factory, ca. 1910, this features "Lisette" surrounded by the traditional foliage of the period. A real collector's piece with its original lid, and all of it in fine original condition besides.

$85, plus shipping.

HANDSOME MILK JUG

6-1/2" high, 6-1/2" across from spout to handle. The interesting striping...6 patterns in all...takes its inspiration from the ribbon trim on the men's costumes....so the variations are endless! What fun for the artist decorating the piece! This is from the HR (Henriot) factory, ca. 1910, signed under the handle, as was customary at that early time.

$110, plus shipping.

CREAM OR SYRUP JUG

5" high, 5" across to handle. A smaller version, and created by the de la Hubaudière factory, at the same period of time (well, they all copied each other, and since the inspirations were all derivative anyway, it would be hard to say who came first?). Four ribbon stripes on this smaller size: one could change them about endlessly, looking at the nuances and choosing a favorite pattern! "Lisette", the femme ordinaire is the centerfold on each, nicely framed in the ribbons.

$65, plus shipping.

BLAZON MUG, ca. 1900

4-1/2" high, 3-1/2" diameter. An altogether remarkable study piece! It features the blazon of Tyrel de Poix, member of a noble family from the center of France. The signature is that of the Camille Moreau atelier, and this could well have been a special commission, around 1900, when that atelier was active. Fun to speculate: was it a gift for some great family occasion? We had modest restoration done to keep the integrity of such a rare item; it is now fine for occasional use.

$165, plus shipping.

TRADITIONAL QUIMPER MUG, ca. 1880

4-1/8" high, 3-1/2" diameter. Here she is: a charmingly rustic rendition of the feminine sujet ordinaire, at its very inception. She came from a very old Breton household where she lived until she came to us. There is a hairline from the top, at the right of her coiffe, down about 2-1/2", ending to the left of the first floral spray. We feel she should just sit proudly on a shelf displaying her colorful costume, but certainly she could hold flowers or small wooden utensils or pens and pencils...you choose!

$125, plus shipping.

SPONGEWARE QUIMPER MUG, ca. 1890

3-7/8" high, 3" diameter. An early use of the spongeware technique, the manganese striping a good clue to its age. It has some modest glaze blips around the rim (which look like they started as glaze skips, and then expanded a bit). We chose to keep it as a purely decorative piece and enhanced it with a dozen old American hand-carved wooden clothes pins.

Mug is $75, plus shipping. Add clothespins: $25 more.
