GEOMETRICS: Geometric patterns take their inspiration from nature: stars, flowers, and even, it is said, from the stained glass of cathedrals like Chartres. Marvelously varied, the possibilities for groupings are endless. |

Plates: 9-1/2" diameter. S: HB Quimper. Petals, petals, petals, all using the à la touche technique, create charmingly diverse effects. Would make a great pair to set off a group of traditional patterns.$125. each |

Chevrette: 9-1/4" high, 7-1/2" across handle. S: HenRiot Quimper, inside the handle. Free-spirited striping and zigzags, all outlined in deep blue, the total is naive and artistic. Not only a great size, but a most unusual form to find with this kind of decoration.$275. |

Early geometrics, their designs and colors as fresh as tomorrow, yet they are all more than one hundred years old ... read on! |
Platter: 13-1/4" x 9-3/4". S: HR. Circa 1890. Soft colors were used for this gentle cobwebby pattern. Its scalloped sides gently flare up; it is a graceful, useful shape in wonderful condition.$225. |
Cup and saucer: saucer 6-1/2" each side, cup 4-1/2" each side, no signature. This handsome trefoil shape with its striking pattern originated with the AP faïencerie in the 19th century; much of their work is unsigned. Some very minor glaze rubs around rim of both cup and saucer, consistent with their venerable age and usefulness.$175. the set. |
Knife rests: 2-1/2" long, triangular ends 1" each side. They match the cup and saucer above, same provenance and details. Five of them are colored and patterned exactly like the cup and saucer, three are patterned in reverse, and one is done in little starbursts of stripes.$60. each, or $500. for all |

Pitcher: 9-1/4" high x 8" across the handle. No signature, but it is absolutely Quimper, ca. 1840. Cheerful pattern of dots-and-squares is so contemporary-looking, it is hard to credit the age of this pitcher. Perhaps a look at all the fautes de cuisson in the handle will validate the time period (as well as the lack of glaze around the base). All of it original, none of it to prevent use as a holder for wild flowers or dried flowers.$650. |
Pitcher: 5-5/8" high x 5" across the handle, no signature. A fitting companion to the piece above: although smaller, the bold plaid makes a strong statement of its own. This handle was well re-glued many years ago, the seam hard to detect. Unless conservation measures are needed, we prefer to leave pieces of this great age exactly as we find them, especially when, as in this case, their utility is unimpaired. All sorts of little spring flowers come to mind for this.$450. |
