French Samplers: This colorful group was all part of one collection of samplers from France, chosen for their exuberance and traditional format: rows of the alphabet in various type faces, with fanciful borders and bits of decoration. Many are signed with the needlewoman's name; all date from 1895 to 1910, using the vibrant yarns typical of that period. We left several in their original frames, and the rest are unframed (very simple shipping!) and ready for your personal touch as to framing. |

First, the unframed pieces, all of them showing modest soil and an occasional skip in the stitches. Nevertheless, for their age, they are quite charming and will add distinction to any room setting where they are hung. | |
